Tyrolean delicacies
…and where you can try them
Tyrol is not only the land of mountains, but also of culinary delights. Hearty Tyrolean home cooking, sweet pastries and hearty specialties are plentiful here. You shouldn’t miss out on these culinary delights during your vacation in the Zugspitz Arena.
Culinary highlights
Juicy cheese dumplings are particularly popular when stopping off at a mountain hut and are an integral part of Tyrolean home cooking, served with a hearty soup or fresh salad. Numerous alpine pastures and mountain huts in the Tiroler Zugspitz Arena attract visitors from near and far with these and many other delicious traditional delicacies (in summer and winter). High up on the mountain, you can not only enjoy top-class home cooking, but also warm service and genuine Tyrolean hospitality at a cozy mountain hut stop. At the nearby Ehrwalder Alm, for example, you will find a variety of ways to enjoy a short breather.
In the Tirolerhaus you not only enjoy a magnificent mountain panorama from the spacious sun terrace, but the menu is also full of delightful views. Regional products from local producers make the traditional Tyrolean dishes taste even better and ensure authentic enjoyment high up on the mountain. The Brent Alm as well as many other large and small mountain huts in the region.
Traditional culinary delights at the Post
But why wander far away when good things are so close? Let us spoil you with home cooking right here at our hotel in Tyrol! Our sun terrace with breathtaking views of the Tyrolean Zugspitze is the perfect place to feast on warm days. Here you can enjoy a variety of specialties from our homeland at lunchtime – from delicious Wiener schnitzel with potato salad to sweet Kaiserschmarrn pancakes. Here are our four favorite classics of local Tyrolean cuisine at the Hotel Post Lermoos:
Kasspatzln
The spicy Kasspatzln is a delicious treat that is also popular in Bavaria. This tasty classic is only perfect with the right cheese mixture. The roasted onions on top complete the culinary feast.
Kaiserschmarrn
This sweet pastry is not only popular here in Tyrol, but is a classic throughout Austria. There is hardly a menu in Tyrol’s mountain huts and inns that doesn’t include it. Properly prepared, with beaten egg whites folded in like a soufflé, Kaiserschmarrn is a real treat that you should definitely not miss out on.
Wiener Schnitzel
Widely known and always popular: the Viennese original is also on the menu throughout Austria. In Tyrol too, breaded pork or veal is part of the traditional local cuisine. Crispy, tender and juicy – simply unbeatable.
Tyrolean Gröstl
Formerly leftovers, today a classic treat. Originally, the popular Tyrolean Gröstl was made from leftovers from the Sunday roast. In the meantime, Gröstl has become a specialty in local restaurants. It is quite simple to prepare – potatoes, beef or pork and onions roasted in a pan with a fried egg on top – and is a real treat for the palate.
