Sauna etiquette

… at the Post Alpin SPA in the Hotel Post in Lermoos.

To ensure that our spa remains a place of peace, harmony and relaxation, we ask you to adhere to sauna etiquette during your stay in our spa. We have summarized the most important points for you here!

Rules of etiquette for sweating

After a day of skiing in the fresh winter air or a hike through the snow-covered forest, there is nothing better than coming to a precious place to find strength and peace. Our sauna world with a view of the Zugspitze provides pure relaxation and lets you take in the surrounding nature. With so much relaxation, however, it is also important to adhere to certain sauna etiquette rules so that no one gets uncomfortable. Before you immerse yourself in the pleasant warmth and gentle tranquillity, we recommend that you read our checklist with the most important sauna rules. This will help you avoid any unpleasant blunders.

Step into the good “sweat room”

The word sauna has its origins in Finnish and means “sweating room”. But it wasn’t actually the Finns who invented the sauna. Its history goes back to the Stone Age and began in East Asia with the so-called sweat baths. At that time, holes in the ground were heated with the help of stones, which in turn were heated in a fire and then doused with water. This principle still works in the same way today, but the technical possibilities allow us to use it more easily.

The right sauna

It is healthy, strengthens the immune system, ensures relaxation, restful sleep and has a positive effect on physical fitness. What many people don’t know: A proper sauna requires a dress code just like a dinner. The only difference is that in most Central European saunas, clothing is not part of the sauna experience. Sauna etiquette forbids bikinis, swimming trunks and bathing shoes, while a towel should always be to hand. It serves as a seat pad and you can cover yourself with it when you leave the sauna.

First comes the shower, then the pleasure

Freshly showered in the sauna. What may seem unusual at first glance has its reasons. Not only do freshly showered visitors smell much more pleasant, but the skin is more likely to benefit from the advantages of a sauna visit if the body is freshly showered. A shower beforehand removes grease, dirt and sweat from the skin. Drying off after a warm shower allows our largest organ to sweat better in the sauna. This ensures that your sauna visit has the desired effect on your skin, health and soul.

Sweat with

Entering and leaving the sauna should be done quickly so as not to bring in too much cool air from outside. Sweat companions like to enjoy the peace and quiet, but also appreciate a friendly greeting in a leisurely tone. Once in the sweatbox, it’s time to choose your seat. The rule of thumb is to sit about an arm’s length away from the person sitting next to you without touching their towel. Gaps should not be filled.

Small print

Caresses, conversations and cell phones are also not allowed in the relaxation area. The Swiss stone pine sauna house in the Hotel Post with relaxation room is open daily from 11:00 – 20:00, the sauna from 15:00 – 18:30. The total duration of a sauna session is around 45 minutes (30 minutes in the sauna followed by cooling down and resting). Make sure you drink enough before and after your sauna session, for example water, tea or juice.
